Obtaining Your FP-C® Certification

The Flight Paramedic-Certified (FP-C) credential is a specialized certification for paramedics who provide medical care during air medical transport. Earning your FP-C certification is a challenging but rewarding achievement that demonstrates your advanced knowledge and expertise in flight and critical care transport. It can also increase your job opportunities and earning potential as a flight paramedic.

Here is a brief introduction to how to obtain your FP-C certification.

Eligibility:

  • To be eligible to sit for the exam, you must hold a current and unrestricted paramedic license.
  • The IBSC does not list any recommendations on experience; however, most accredited flight agencies require three (3) years of experience as a paramedic.
    • Note that this is not a requirement for exam eligibility.

Exam Costs:

  • Initial Exam Cost – $385
    • ICAPP members – $285
  • Retest Cost – $385
    • ICAPP members – $285
  • Recertification – $385
    • ICAPP members – $285
    • Late fee: $125 for all applications not received 30 days before the expiration
  • Military – $385 or $285
    • Fees can be reimbursed with VA Benefits

How to take the exam:

  1. Paper Exam (PBT)
  2. Testing Center (CBT)
  3. Live Remote Proctoring (RPT)
 

You are allowed/given a whiteboard or blank paper during the exam. At the end of the exam, you must dispose of your scrap paper or clear the board.

The Exam:

  • 35 questions
    • 110 scored
    • 25 unscored
  • The raw passing score is 88 correct questions.
  • You have three (2.5) hours to complete the exam.
  • You will not be given your exact score upon passing. If you fail, you will be given a report indicating your strengths and weaknesses on the exam.
